Professor Christensen is a partner at the St. Louis law firm Behr, McCarter & Potter, P.C., counseling corporate, individual, and municipal clients on a wide range of cases, including commercial, construction, insurance, creditors’ rights, employment, health care, personal injury, professional liability, and real estate matters. Joel earned his B.A., cum laude, in Philosophy and Political Science from Knox College and his J.D. from Washington University School of Law.
In 2019, Professor Christensen received the St. Louis County Bar Association’s Roy F. Essen Outstanding Young Lawyer Award and the Knox College Young Alumni Achievement Award. He was recognized in the peer-reviewed Best Lawyers: Ones to Watch® 2021 list in the area of commercial litigation, and has been recognized by Super Lawyers® as a Rising Star in business litigation every year since 2016. In 2016, Professor Christensen was named one of Missouri’s Up & Coming Lawyers by Missouri Lawyers Weekly.®
As a law student, Professor Christensen was Editor-in-Chief of the Washington University Journal of Law & Policy in 2009-2010 and won the 2008 Wiley Rutledge Moot Court competition. He also received the faculty’s Mary Collier Hitchcock Prize for outstanding writing and was awarded the Dan Carter-Earl Tedrow Memorial Award, selected by his classmates as the graduating student “exemplifying the aims of all those entering the profession of law.”
